Jurassic Park is a theme park pioneered by John Hammond, the founder and CEO of a bioengineering company called InGen. Located in Isla Nublar, cloned dinosaurs populate the park. A park worker is killed by a velociraptor and because of this incident, the park’s investors call in experts to assess the park’s safety. The park’s lawyer, Donald Gennaro, sends an invitation to mathematician named Malcolm. John Hammon on the other hand invites the paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant and a paleobotanist named Dr. Ellie Sattler. When they arrive, the group is surprised to see some of the dinosaurs kept in the park.
A tour around the park reveals that the dinosaurs are cloned using the DNA extracted from a mosquitoes preserved in amber. Since the dinosaurs’ genome are incomplete, frog DNA is used to fill the gaps in the DNA strands. In addition, the dinosaurs cloned are all females to prevent the animals from breeding.
Hammond also brings her children, Lex and Tim Murphy, to the park. The children join a tour which ends up in a disaster when the dinosaurs get sick and one of the triceratops also falls ill. Their day is made worse by a storm threatening to hit Isla Nublar. The employees retreat to the mainland while Ellie decides to stay with the park’s veterinarian to observe the triceratops.
When the storm hits, Dennis Nedry who works as a computer programmer in the park deactivates the park’s security system so that he can steal some dinosaur embryos from the park’s laboratories. Because the power is cut off, all of the electrically powered vehicles come to a halt. Even the electric fences are deactivated. Because of this, a Tyrannosaurus rex escapes and attacks the tour group. Gennaro is eaten while Malcolm is heavily injured as the rest of the group escapes. Nedry on the other hand gets lost as he tries to esape the island and meets his death on the teeth of a Dilophosaurus.
In the meantime, Ellie and the park’s warden, a man named Robert Muldoon search for survivors. They find Malolm just before the T. rex can attack again. The group tries to repair the security system but they can’t decode Nedry’s program. Because of this, they decide to just reboot the whole system of the park. To shut down the park’s system, the park’s chief engineer, Ray Arnold proceeds to the maintenance room to while the rest of the group hide in a bunker. After some time, Ellie and Robert follow him. What they find are the deactivated fences and the escaped velociraptors. The pair take action to distract the velociraptors as they try to get the power back on. Ellie finds what remains of Arnold and she escapes while the raptors converge on Muldoon and kill him.
On the other hand, the group of Grant, Tim and Lex find shells of dinosaur eggs. Grant theorizes that the dinosaurs have the ability to breed because of the frogs’ genes incorporated in their DNA. He believes that because the frogs used as source of DNA to complete the dinosaurs’ genome are capable of sex reversal, the same characteristic has been conveyed to the dinosaurs. The group heads back to the visitor center. Grant leaves the children to search for other survivors. Left alone, Lex and Tim barely manage to escape two velociraptors before Grant and Ellie come back. The four remaining survivors go to the control room and restores power to the whole park. They call for help and try to escape the velociraptors. At the last moment, the T. rex appears and devours the two raptors. The group escapes as Hammond and Malcolm come to their rescue. The movie ends with the group leaving the island via and helicopter and Grant making a decision not to endorse Jurassic Park.
