The Return of the Jedi starts with Luke Skywalker trying to save Han Solo from Jabba the Hut. Princess Leia, Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, along with C-3PO and R2-D2 help him with his quest. Princess Leia goes undercover posing as a bounty hunter with Chewbacca acting as her prisoner while Lando disguises himself as a guard. After releasing Han, Leia is caught and made a slave by the enemies. Luke comes to the rescue but he is also caught. He and Han Solo are sentenced to serve as food for the monster Sarlacc. In the Carkoon, Luke escapes with R2-D2’s help before he can be eaten by Sarlacc. A battle ensues and Boba Fett almost kills him before Han Solo arrives and knocks the enemy on Sarlacc’s pit. On the other hand, Leia kills Jabba and Luke destroys Jabba’s barge before they flee. The rest of the group meet with the Rebel Alliance while Luke goes to Dagobah. There he finds out that Yoda is on the verge of dying. Prior to his death, Yoda reveals to Luke that Darth Vader, formerly known as Anakin Skywalker, is his father. After that, an apparition of Obi-Wan Kenobi divulges to Luke that he has a twin sister, Leia. Furthermore, it is Luke’s task to defeat his father in order to destroy the Empire.
The Rebel Alliance finds out that they Empire is building a new Death Star under the supervision of Emperor Palpatine. Han then leads an attack on the forest moon of Endor to destroy the shield generator that protects the Death Star. Luke and Leia join the strike team and they journey towards Endor aboard a stolem Imperial shuttle. On Endor, Luke’s group encounters the Ewoks. The creatures are initially doubtful of their intentions but they soon gain their trust. Not much later, Luke reveals to Leia that he is her twin brother and Darth Vader is their father. He also tells her about his mission to defeat him. After that, Luke gives up himself to the Imperial troops and he is brought in front of Darth Vader. Upon meeting his father, Luke tries to convince Darth Vader to turn his back from the dark side of the Force but to no avail.
Darth Vader, on the other hand, intends to convince Luke to turn to the dark side. He then brings his son to the Emperor. The Emperor tells Luke that the Death Star is already finished and it is ready to ambush the Rebel fleet. On Endor, Han’s troop is almost defeated by the Imperial forces when the Ewoks come to their aid. At the meantime, Lando leads the Rebel forces to the Death Star but to their surprise, the vessel is already waiting for them. The Emperors pushes Luke on edge to make him turn to the dark side. In the end, Luke engages in a battle with his father using his lightsaber. When Darth Vader realizes that Luke has a twin sister, he threatens him that he will also make her sister join the dark side. In his anger, Luke manages to cut off Darth Vader’s right hand. Upon seeing this, the Emperor urges Luke to kill his father but Luke refuses and announces himself to be a Jedi like his father was. The strike team on Endor then successful destroys the shield generator, dismantling the force field of the Death Star. The Rebel immediately commences an attack on the vessel. Because of this, Emperor Palpatine punishes Luke with his powers. At that moment, Darth Vader saves his son by killing the Emperor but not without receiving mortal wounds first. Before he dies, Darth Vader asks his son to remove his mask as he lies in his arms.
The battle ends when Lando manages to destroy the Death Star’s main reactor. Luke leaves the vessel and brings his father’s body with him. On Endor, Leia finally tells Han about her twin brother. Upon Luke’s return, they hold a funeral pyre for Anakin Skywalker. The movie ends with victory celebration of the Rebels.
