Terminator 2: Judgment Day is set in 1995, when John Connor is just ten years old and residing with his foster parents in Los Angeles. His mother, Sarah Connor, has been arrested after an attempted bombing on a computer factory. She is locked up in a mental hospital under the supervision of Dr. Silberman. On the other hand, a new Terminator has been sent by Skynet to kill John. This Terminator, T-1000, has the capability to copy the form of everything it touches. It can also transform any parts of its body into all sorts of weapons. The Terminator goes undercover by stealing the identity of a policeman that he killed. On the other hand, another Terminator is sent by John Connor from the future to protect his younger self.
The Terminator commissioned to protect John, T-800 and T-1000 reach John at the same time. T-800 escapes with John as the T-100 goes after them. John asks for his Terminators help to free his mother because he fears that the other Terminator will kill her. Before they can help her, they find Sarah as she attempts to escape the hospital on her own. She becomes doubtful when she sees T-800 but she concedes to go with them. During their escape, the Terminator T-800 tells them about Skynet. John and Sarah learns that it is an artificial intelligence that plans on annihilating humankind by starting a nuclear holocaust called “Judgment Day” and launching machines that will finish off whoever’s left among humans. Sarah also finds out the person responsible for the creation of Skynet, Miles Bennett Dyson.
Sarah initilally wants to escape with John to Mexico but she changes her mind and she takes on a journey to kill Dyson to stop Judgment Day from happening. She catches him at home but she can’t kill him in front of his family. The Terminator and John arrive and tell Dyson about what will happen in the event that he creates Skynet. The group realizes that Dyson’s research has been based on the damaged CPU and right arm of the preceding Terminator. They manage to persuade Dyson to break into Cyberdyne and destroy the CPU and the robotic arm. After they have sneaked into the building, the authorities come to arrest them. Dyson is shot but he not before he can rig some explosives. He dies as the explosion pulverizes the whole building. Sarah, John and T-800 survive but T-1000 stills chases them.
The group ends up in steel mill where T-1000 and T-800 battle it out. Being more advanced, T-1000 gains the upper hand. Before T-800 can shut down, its emergency back-up system powers up and revives the robot. Using an M79 grenade launcher, T-800 saves Sarah from T-1000 by hurling it into a vat of molten steel. John throws the CPU and the severed right arm as well. Since Sarah and John are already free from danger, the Terminator tells them that he must also be destroyed so that no one can acquire the technology his system has. He seeks Sarah’s help since he is unable to self-terminate. Though John tries to change the Terminator’s decision, the movie ends with T-800 being submerged in a tank of molten metal.
